ABOUT THE CONVERSION

How Hijri and Gregorian dates line up.

A lunar year is shorter

The Hijri year is about 354 days — roughly 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year. That's why Islamic dates like Ramadan move earlier through the seasons each Gregorian year.

Months are 29 or 30 days

Each Hijri month is either 29 or 30 days long. If a converted date comes back as invalid, it's usually because you entered day 30 of a 29-day month.

Umm al-Qura calculation

We use the Umm al-Qura calendar — the calculated system behind official Saudi dates. Local moon-sighting can shift an observance ±1 day from the calculated date.

FAQ

Converting dates, answered.

How do I convert a Gregorian date to a Hijri date?

Enter any Gregorian date in the converter above and the equivalent Islamic (Hijri) date appears instantly, calculated with the Umm al-Qura method. Nothing is sent anywhere — the conversion runs entirely in your browser.

How do I convert a Hijri date to a Gregorian date?

Tap “Switch calendar”, then enter the Hijri day, month and year (AH). The matching Gregorian date is shown immediately. If the result reads invalid, the day likely exceeds that month's length — Hijri months have 29 or 30 days.

Why might a converted date be off by a day?

This tool uses the calculated Umm al-Qura calendar. Communities that begin each month on the physical moon-sighting may observe a date one day earlier or later, so a converted date can differ from your local Islamic date by a day.

What is the Umm al-Qura calendar?

Umm al-Qura is the astronomically calculated Hijri calendar used for official dates in Saudi Arabia. It gives a precise, consistent date without relying on local crescent sightings.
